Roblox has been blocked in Turkey since 7 August 2024, when a criminal court in the southern city of Adana ordered access to the platform cut off nationwide. Turkish officials said the decision was about protecting children, not about the game itself.

Why did Turkey block Roblox?

The order came from the Adana 6th Criminal Court of Peace after a request by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors said Roblox hosted content that could lead to the abuse and exploitation of children. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said the state is constitutionally obliged to take measures to protect children, and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) put the block in place the same day.

The court relied on Turkey’s internet law, first passed in 2007, which lets a judge block a site to protect life, public order or general health. No specific examples of the harmful content were made public.

How did the ban unfold?

  • 2 August 2024: Turkey blocks Instagram in a separate dispute, five days before Roblox.
  • 7 August 2024: Roblox is blocked by all major Turkish internet providers.
  • 18 June 2026: several outlets report that Roblox has reopened after 680 days, but BTK records still show the block in place and the claims are walked back.

A press-freedom group, the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA), challenged the order in court, but its appeal was rejected on the grounds that it lacked legal standing. Roblox has said it would open a local office in Turkey if access is restored.

What does the ban mean for players?

The ban targets access, not individual players. Turkish users and game developers who earned income on Roblox lost direct access, and many turned to VPNs. The case is often compared with Russia’s Roblox block, which was lifted in June 2026 after the company agreed to new child-safety measures. Turkey has not announced a similar deal.

Turkey also blocks other platforms from time to time; see every recorded restriction on our Turkey bans page. For the wider picture of how governments are restricting apps for children, our guide to countries where social media is banned covers the new age-limit laws, including Turkey’s own under-15 rules.
