Iraq banned Roblox nationwide in October 2025. The Ministry of Communications announced the ban on Sunday, 19 October, saying it was acting on decisions by the Federal Supreme Court to protect children and the country’s moral values.
Why did Iraq ban Roblox?
The ministry said a study and field monitoring had found that the game carried “security, social and behavioural risks”. Its main concern was in-game chat, which it said exposed children and teenagers to exploitation and online blackmail. It also said some content was incompatible with Iraq’s social values and traditions, and pointed to rising digital addiction and isolation among young users.
Communications Minister Hayam al-Yasiri went further in a video message, saying the game harmed children and families because it contained content used to lure, harass and blackmail children.
Did the Kurdistan Region follow?
Yes. On 30 October 2025 the Kurdistan Regional Government’s communications ministry issued its own order adding Roblox to its list of filtered apps and told internet providers in the region to block it within the “family internet package”. That means the ban covers both federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Had Roblox already made changes?
Before the ban, Roblox had temporarily switched off some communication features, including in-game chat, for users in Arabic-speaking countries, Iraq among them. The company has said it respects local laws and shares lawmakers’ commitment to protecting children. Iraq did not say whether those changes would be enough to lift the ban.
Is Roblox still banned in Iraq?
Yes. We found no announcement that the ban has been lifted. Iraq’s ban is one of several in the region: Qatar’s block began two months earlier, while Kuwait lifted its ban in late October 2025 after Roblox agreed to new content rules.
Iraq’s decision also came the same year Egypt and Russia moved against the platform; see the Egypt Roblox ban for how a non-Gulf government handled it. Every game restriction we track is listed on the banned games page.
